Should you send your child to school??

By: Amber White

So, your morning has started just like any other until you go to wake your child up for school. “I don’t wanna go to school. I don’t feel good.” How do you know if they should go or not? Well the only sure way to know what’s going on is a visit to the doctor but there are a few things to look for and think about.

  • Fever- A fever is a sure sign that the body is fighting something and is a good indication that your child will need to stay home. It is recommended that they be fever free for at least 24 hours prior to returning to school from an illness.

  • Are they able to learn?- Drowsy? Nauseous? Achy? If your child’s symptoms would prevent them from participating in class and being able to learn, A days’ rest can ensure they will be good to go when they return to class.

  • Class contamination- One child is all it takes to get the whole class sick. If you think your child may be contagious do your child’s teacher, school janitor, and nurse a favor and keep them home. They will appreciate you for it!

While the doctor will be able to tell you for sure if your child needs a day or two off keep an eye out for these symptoms: fever, sore throat that lasts more than 48 hours, rashes, ear pain, red eye that is matted together when they wake up, uncontrollable cough, diarrhea and or vomiting just to name a few.

Whether its Monday’s blues or Friday’s fever we are here at 45 Urgent Care Monday- Saturday 8am-8pm to take care of you and your little ones.
