Well spring is finally in the air along with the crazy weather that comes with it and that can only mean one thing…. Spring Sports! With any type of sport one thing you must always keep in the back of your head is the possibility of a sports injury in your child. While some injuries like a broken bone are obvious there is one type of common sports injury that is not so easy to see, a concussion. So here is a list of common symptoms and things to look for in your child if you suspect a concussion:

  • irritability
  • balance issues
  • loss of coordination
  • problems walking
  • seizures
  • draining of blood or clear fluid from the ears or nose
  • unequal pupil size
  • abnormal eye movement
  • lasting confusion
  • slurred speech
  • repeated vomiting
  • brief loss of consciousness after the injury
  • an inability to wake up

If you or someone you know has any of these symptoms following a hard “knock” during any activity you should get to a doctor as soon as possible because it is always better to be safe than sorry.
